My experience with my doctors was that they were slow in diagnosing my condition when i fist started to go ill i saw many doctors who did not even realise the extent of my depression.They started me off on medication which takes three weeks to even kick in and they start you off on such a low dosage that well anyone having assessed me at that time would have known that the dosage would not aid in speedy recovery.
I ended up in hospital which was terrifying as a family member had always said i would end up in one one day.I was really scared,i mean when i went in there was an ill patient who was screaming as though she was being murdered,i was pleading with my family not to leave me there,my husband stayed with me that first night and my son but i was so ill it was too traumatic for them to stay as i had no recolection of them.
I was put on suicide watch which is routine as they have to take precautions-this was very invasive as i was not allowed to be alone even when i was in the shower etc-i was not allowed to go anywhere without a staff member.The medical doctors were quite good at this point and tried to be helpful although i was sent home by one doctor who sent me home without any medication or any aid needless to say this was an error of judgement.
While in their care they would have case reviews where you would be in a room with health professions such as ward nurse/Doctors/Health visitor/cpn people who you did not know and they would all sit in a circle and discuss me as though i was not around it was very demeaning and just the wait for each review was nerve racking and i would sit and observe others who would go before me,soon i would understand their frustration as you are observed all the time while in hospital and they would make notes and fire questions at you,it was very intense.
